Karolina
When the appearance crumbles,
it eats itself in.
it eats itself in.
Karolina Oxelväg works with video installations focusing on power relations and social pressures placed on us as individuals in a collective society. By sampling and assembling clips from the TV industry, YouTube and Hollywood movies she highlights contemporary popular cultural phenomena and trends, analyzes and comments on them. Aiming to look beyond various treacherously glittery and happy facades, Oxelväg wants to question in what different ways today’s massive flow of rapid entertainment affects its spectators.
Oxelväg is also creator och and active member of THE BOARD, a feminist artist group working against elitism and inequality in the art world through performance, video installation and social media.
Karolina Oxelväg grew up in the Swedish countryside south of Örebro. Between 2011-2013 she studied at Örebro Art School and in 2018 she received a master's degree from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Since then she has exhibited her video works at Västerås Konstmuseum, Uppsala Art Museum, Bunkern Gallery and OpenArt in Örebro and MDT in Stockholm.
